A large 1,000 sq ft West Chicago deck resurfaced with new decking, replaced rotted joists, and finished with white railings and fascia for a clean, durable result.
This large deck project in West Chicago, IL was a true testament to the fact that quality work often begins well beneath the surface. What started as a resurfacing job quickly revealed itself to be much more, and our team approached every step with the structural integrity and long-term durability of the deck in mind.
The deck spanned approximately 1,000 square feet, making it one of the larger outdoor living spaces we've revitalized. At first glance, the project appeared to be a straightforward surface replacement — swap out the aging, weathered boards and refresh the look. But once the old decking was removed, the real story underneath came to light.
During demolition, we discovered that several of the existing joists had developed significant rot. Over years of exposure to moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, and the elements, the framing had quietly deteriorated to the point where it could no longer safely support a new deck surface. Building over compromised joists would have meant installing a beautiful new deck on top of a failing foundation — a problem that would have resurfaced within just a few seasons. Rather than cut corners, we addressed the issue head-on.
Our team carefully removed and replaced all of the damaged joists, restoring a solid, level, and dependable framing structure across the entire footprint. With a sound foundation back in place, we installed fresh deck boards across the full 1,000-square-foot area, creating a smooth, consistent, and inviting surface from edge to edge.
To complete the transformation, we finished the perimeter with crisp new white railings and white fascia boards. The white detailing frames the deck with a clean, modern contrast against the decking and gives the entire space a polished, finished appearance — the kind of detail that elevates a renovation from simply functional to genuinely beautiful.
Completed in February 2026 by Osnova Construction. This project gave the homeowners far more than a cosmetic upgrade. It delivered a deck that not only looks clean, fresh, and durable, but is also structurally sound and built to last for years to come. It's a reminder that the best results come from doing the job right — even when that means going deeper than the surface.
